District heating/liquid floor DEW Dortmund
Dortmunder Energie- und Wasserversorgung GmbH (DEW21) is planning to restructure the district heating supply for the city of Dortmund.
The existing steam network will be gradually converted to carry hot water. Central city areas will be connected to a heating plant in the northern part of Dortmund via two transport pipelines for this purpose.
The “IQ Westtrasse” sub-project comprised excavation and district heating pipeline construction for plastic jacket pipelines of various dimensions between DN 350/500 and DN 250/400 and construction of some DN 80/160 and DN 125/225 building connection lines. The pipeline was around 2,500 m long.
A pipe route in the very centre of the city, archaeological finds and a suspected bomb site posed special challenges from a technical perspective. Another special characteristic of the project consisted of backfilling a section under the DB bridges in the Brinkhoffstrasse area with liquid soil.
